Shared Governance Retreat – summary

The retreat today was productive overall, I think.  It was structured around a general discussion in the first hour, led by Lorne (that Mark Breitenberg kicked things off was a little odd, and perhaps bears further discussion, but I digress), and then break-out sessions for another hour where each of the four governance committees, faculty council, chairs council and student government met to discuss improvements.  Afterwards, each group reported back to the entire assembly.

The discussions seemed very healthy.  I’ll concentrate on Faculty Council’s own participation, there was so much discussed by the other groups (more…)

Shared Governance retreat 3/30

Lorne has organized a shared governance retreat on 3/30 (it’s more like a workshop, it will be held at hillside) from 9am to 1pm. The purpose of the retreat is to brainstorm and envision how shared governance at ACCD can be improved as we move forward.

Lorne has made it clear to me that anyone with an interest in the future of shared governance at ACCD is welcome to attend. (more…)

Spring 2013 Minutes Week 09

Plagiarism Policy

Met with Kendra, Assistant Director of Student Support Services, to go over student handbook guidelines on AC plagiarism policy. After some discussion it was decided that educating everyone on an agreed definition, design ethics, and better understanding of citation would be a good start.  A disciplinary committee would be useful as well as a standard structure for first offence, second offence and disciplinary action.  Kendra agreed that now would be a good time to revisit these policies.  FC needs to pursue this issue, continuing the discussion with CSE, but also through the Student Academic Policy Committee

USPS priorities

Here’s the priorities list we approved in the facilities committee on 2/21/13, as we look to develop the USPS building:

  • Follow the Strategic Plan so that all facility decisions serve the educational mission of the college
  • Designated departments have logical adjacencies to other programs (including Public Programs)
  • Designated departments do not require industrial grade shop facilities
  • Designated departments would prefer to move once only (temporary and then permanent occupancy of USPS building) (more…)
