Office of Development

Wayne Herron, Senior Director of Development, writes:

The Office of Development raises funds and creates meaningful ways for donors to support leaders in art and design at Art Center College of Design. The office is guided by a set of core values that provide the behavioral standards for the program: professional, honest, collaborative, ambassadors, service, thankful, relationships and excellence.

The Office of Development is comprised of annual, major, corporate, foundation and planned giving, all of which are supported by professionals in data management and prospect research.

In 2007, under the leadership of the Office of Development, the College successfully completed the $75 million Phase I of the Campaign for Art Center that was launched in 1999 by raising $75,246,789. During Phase I, over $31 million was raised for scholarships ($25 million for endowed scholarships, and $6 million for annual scholarships); more than $13 million was raised for campus development, including funds for the acquisition and renovation of the South Campus; and over $30 million was raised for educational and faculty excellence, which included support for core operations, sponsored projects and research, and faculty development.

2008 marked the launch of the $75 million Phase II of the Campaign for Art Center. This five year campaign will focus on: Design Research Center (goal = $50 million); Annual Fund that supports core operations (goal = $4 million); Scholarships (goal = $15 million; $10 million for endowed scholarships and $5 million for annual scholarships); Endowment (goal = $16 million; including $10 million for endowed scholarships as mentioned, and $6 million for other endowments such as chairs, professorships, academic programs, etc.).

When members of the administration travel for fundraising activities, what is their “class level” of travel? Coach? Business Class? First Class? Is there an existing travel policy? Can we see it posted here in its entirety?

There is an upcoming trip to the SF bay area where Richard Koshalek will be reaching out to corporations and alumni. How will he be travelling? What kind of hotel will he be staying in? What is the trip’s total allocated budget? Is there a budget that must be adhered to, or do they just hand in the receipts?

Mr. Heron we are glad to hear that your fund raising efforts are focused on endowment and scholarships.

Thank you for taking the time to meet with students.
