Learn to create. Influence change. This is the mission of Art Center College of Design. For more than 80 years, we’ve achieved an international reputation for our rigorous, transdisciplinary curriculum, faculty of professionals, strong ties to industry and a commitment to socially responsible design. At Art Center, we prepare artists and designers to make a positive impact in their chosen fields—and in the world at large.
A dynamic year of growth: In 2012, Art Center College of Design expanded both physically and academically. Building on our strategic plan with generous help from alumni, we acquired a former U.S. Postal Service property in Pasadena directly adjacent to our South Campus. And we selected Michael Maltzan Architecture as our partner in reimagining Art Center as a campus with three centers of learning—an expanded South Campus, an improved Hillside Campus and a robust virtual campus. We also launched new cutting-edge academic programs that will enhance our graduates’ ability to meet future challenges.
About the artist Lamson To: Award-winning Los Angeles-based designer and recent alum Lamson To created this animation exclusively for Art Center. The dynamic visual and musical rhythms harken back to To’s earlier life as a songwriter and musician. In his hometown of Portland, Ore., he formed an indie rock band and discovered his calling as a designer creating the band’s edgy T-shirts and fliers. He credits Art Center with honing his design skills and introducing him to motion graphics, one of the main instruments with which he’s now expressing his creative voice in highly original ways. After winning an Art Directors Club GOLD Cube award, To graduated in 2012 with a BFA in Graphic Design and aspires to a career as an art director.
