Party school? Maybe not. But ACCD has “interesting” in the bag.

Art Center may not be the most socially vibrant college environment. And the school’s notorious make-or-die work ethic can make for a very sleep-deprived (sometimes hygenically challenged) student population. But ACCD and its students are nothing if not interesting.

So it was more than a little mystifying when ACCD went missing from The Huffington Post’s list of the Most Interesting Places to go to College. In fact, we’d argue that the list’s credibility is somewhat undermined by the preponderance of large, state mega-universities and a notable lack of art and design colleges — Cooper Union is the sole survivor in this category.

We wholeheartedly agree with the premise of the piece: it’s important to attend a school that cultivates and attracts interesting faculty, students and ideas. But, in the interest of accuracy, we’ve compiled a list of relevant (if a little irreverent) facts about ACCD that might inform future lists.

And to fully prove our point, we’re encouraging current and former Art Center students to weigh in below with their own thoughts on what makes for an interesting college experience and how ACCD measures up. And, please, keep your comments lively. Go interesting, or go home!

ACCD has made a strong showing in these “interesting” areas attributed to other schools:

  • We’re noted pioneers in the arena of incorporating art and design into activism, like Cooper Union.
  • Mountain lions have been spotted on campus, as at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
  • ACCD is based in Los Angeles. But Pasadena is walkable and accessible to Downtown on the Gold Line.
  • Pixar recruits on campus, as it also does at Brown.
  • Drake boasts of its “Silicon Prairie” locale. But we’re located smack in the middle of Pasadena’s Innovation Corridor.
  • Bored celebs go to NYU. But major celebs tell their parents they’re headed to L.A. to attend Art Center when they’re really pursuing their Hollywood dreams (Brad Pitt).
  • Our student/faculty ratio is 9:1 (Fall 2012).
  • University of Pittsburgh may have the tallest academic building. But ours has an architectural landmark, the Ellwood Building that graces our Hillside campus.
  • Athletics? Nope, but the Rose Bowl is down the street.
