From muscle machines to dinosaur skulls: Art Center’s March 2014 alumni notes

It’s that time of month again. Time, that is, to catch up on the creative undertakings Art Center’s talented diaspora of alums have been plotting, planning, pitching, prototyping, publishing, publicizing, producing and plying. And that’s just the p’s.

Dive into the following digest of alumni accomplishments and works-in-progress. And for those alums among us, be sure to clue us in on your own news and notes for inclusion in our next dispatch. We don’t want to miss anything. This is Art Center, after all. And we’re nothing if not completists.

News

Zhenya Gershman (MFA 01 Art) is working on a book and TV series on Rembrandt and recently wrote an article for The Huffington Post: “7 Keys to Rembrandt’s Secret.” Huffington Post

‘Doomsday.Party,’ the debut feature film by Ho Hong (BFA 02 Film), was selected by the Dallas International Film Festival as a Finalist in the Narrative Feature Competition. Dallas International Film Festival

Stuart Fingerhut (BS 10 Environmental) was mentioned in an article about weapons in design in the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf – De Woonkrant. Stuart Fingerhut Design

The photography of Howard Koby (BFA 68 Photography) was featured in Hemmings Muscle Machines’ February 2014 issue, in an article about historical drag racing. Hemmings Muscle Machines

Exhibitions

Works by Aaron Curry (MFA 05 Art) and Art Center Faculty member Benjamin Weissman are featured in “CHERUB,” a group exhibition at newly opened 2nd Cannons project space in Los Angeles. March 22nd – May 10th. 2nd Cannons

Anna Serrano (BFA 08 Illustration) is exhibiting a serigraph created in collaboration with Self Help Graphics in LACMA’s Fútbol: The Beautiful Game, an exhibition at Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The exhibition closes on July 20th. LACMA

Olivia Barrionuevo (BFA 07 Photography) exhibited her photographs in the group show, ‘Mujeres de luz y de sombra’ at Avenue 50 Studio in Los Angeles. March 8th – April 5th. Avenue 50 Studio

Crowdfunding

Bart Vandever (MFA 2011 Film) is raising funds for a revenge/heist film, starring Michael Madsen of Reservoir Dogs as George Fitzgerald, a corrupt real estate mogul. Kickstarter

Cezanne Farris-Gilbert (BS 08 Product) and the rest of his team at CRISP^YHKG are raising funds for their expandable, modular frame system. Kickstarter

Ralph Roberts (BFA 03 Illustration) is crowdsourcing funds for 3D Models of dinosaur skulls cast in bronze, silver and gold. Kickstarter
